CATEGORIES 2016

Categories for 2016 will be listed on this page in the new year.   Categories for the Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards 2015 are listed to the right.

Express, Deli, Café

Food outlets that enable us to dine whilst ‘on the go’, or when we want a quick meal in an informal setting.

Gastro Pub / Brasserie

Relaxed, often informal or semi-formal settings, in which there is much emphasis placed on the quality of food and service. Menus often contain culturally-specific and possibly ‘rustic’ dishes, which require considerable skill to execute.

Gastronomic Restaurant

More formal restaurants that seek to build reputation on dishes that exhibit finesse, complexity and considerable skill in execution; extensive product knowledge of staff; and attentive yet unobtrusive service.

Traditional Pub Restaurant

A uniquely British creation, informal establishments that promote a sense of conviviality and community, which serve good quality food (often, but not exclusively British) and a range of beers.

Asian

A defining characteristic of the Oxfordshire restaurant scene – establishments serving exclusively Asian cuisine. Note: those serving only ‘take-out’ food should enter the ‘express, deli and café’ category.

The Wellers Public Vote

Based on independent submissions by members of the public.

Outstanding Service Award

Based on interpretation of scores and reviews, the judging panel will identify the restaurant that offered the most outstanding quality of service.

Award of Distinction

Awarded to an individual, restaurant or organisation that has achieved something extraordinary which should be celebrated.

The 2016 City of Oxford College Trainee Award

Awarded to an individual who has achieved success through a apprenticeship or other formal programme of learning, leading to a qualification opening up future progression opportunities. Judges will be looking for a learner, whose success has made a difference to the workplace, thereby helping the business to grow through developing a talented, motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.

Living in Oxford Award

The team’s favourite, a restaurant that we have all been to and enjoyed.

Oxfordshire’s Most Sustainable Restaurant

Restaurants have entered this category because they are proud of their sustainable attributes whether this is recycling, sourcing food locally or environmentally friendly paper used for their menus.

Best College Dining Room

We are fortunate to have some superb restaurants in Oxford which are hidden behind the walls of our famous Oxford college walls. A new award in 2016 but already very competitive.

Chef of the Year

A chef that has excelled in many areas, worked well under pressure and created some masterpieces.

Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons Award for Excellence

This is an Award to recognise the outstanding contribution of an Oxfordshire restaurant or individual working in the restaurant business. Nominated and awarded by the judging panel to an individual who has had a positive impact on the reputation of Oxfordshire as a dining destination.
